OEM/ODM Apparel Sample Development Checklist for Bulk Buyers

A practical checklist for importers, apparel brands and distributors preparing a first sample with fewer missing details and faster quotation feedback.

Ask for Sample-Ready RFQ

A professional sample request does not need to be complicated, but it should remove uncertainty. The more clearly a buyer explains product direction, branding and packing, the faster a factory can confirm sample cost, sample lead time and bulk price direction.

Information to prepare before sampling

  • Product type, target fabric, GSM or reference product link.
  • Fit direction, size range, size chart or sample garment.
  • Color list, quantity estimate and destination country.
  • Logo artwork, decoration method and placement size.
  • Label, hang tag, polybag, barcode and carton mark requirements.

What happens after RFQ submission

The factory reviews whether the request is suitable for existing fabric, available trims and realistic sample timing. If details are missing, the buyer receives clarification questions before sample cost is confirmed. After the sample is made, buyers should review fit, handfeel, color, logo position, label placement and packing route.

Common details that delay samples

Missing artwork files, unclear size charts, no target GSM, uncertain packaging, changing color direction and incomplete destination information can all slow down quotation. Preparing these points early makes the first sample more useful.
